America has made great advances in its treatment of minorities since the days of slavery, internment camps, and segregation.

However, in tough economic times, people tend to look for scapegoats. Things may not get as bad as they did in Nazi Germany. But there may be isolated incidences of discrimination and violence. Even today, African Americans are considered “last hired, first fired.”

How do you survive when you obviously look different, worship a different God, or are trying to preserve your freedom and security in a society that may no longer be as safe for you as it was?

That is what I plan on exploring and writing about.
